BM-SO-315 Biedermeier Box, Ice Birch, Germany, circa 1840

Description

Beautiful, unadorned Biedermeier casket box from Germany, circa 1840.

• Ice birch veneer on oak and softwood painted black on the inside.
• Large double brass lock and three hinges (two in the center and one extra with a bow strap on the left).
• Ebonized knob with white dot on the front of the lid.
• Underside veneered in mahogany.
• Restored condition, hand-polished with shellac.
